: It’s all go at Florida’s theme parks

The holiday season has proved so successful for the main theme park attractions in Florida this year, that some had to temporarily shut their gates for short periods, officials said.

Three Disney parks, as well as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Legoland, all had to close their entrances and parking lots as record numbers of visitors came to enjoy the Orlando attractions.

Legoland, just two months old, has become a real smash hit with tourists despite a gloomy economy in the United States.

Disney has extended its opening hours from 7am – 1am to cope with demand, a spokesperson said entry to day ticket holders was frozen temporarily for around 90 minutes to “ensure guests had a memorable experience”.

The flood of visitors to Orlando is a real sign that tourists are putting the economic gloom of the past couple of years behind them and official visitor figures are set to smash 53.5 million for 2011, two million more than last year.
