The national tourist board, VisitEngland has announced that the number of overnight domestic holidays booked in England has increased by four per cent year on year between January and August.
During the three month period between June and August, which includes the national school holiday period, 17.8 million holidays were taken in England, a rise of three per cent over the same period in 2010.
Predicting a potentially exciting year for English tourism in 2012, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive James Berresford said: “It is heartening that the number of people choosing to take a holiday in England remains above pre-recession levels.
“It is vital that we continue to work very hard together to maintain this trend.”
