The Spanish Tourist Office announced at the World Travel Market in London that to build on the much better than expected number of visitors to Spain during the first nine months of 2011 the country will be undertaking a brand make-over.
Spain still faces challenges alongside the rest of the world, but compares itself to Microsoft – leading the market for many years but now challenged by Apple – or in Spain’s case, other European destinations.
The Spanish Tourist Office’s new director in the UK, Enrique Ruiz de Lera, said Spain was seen as ‘uncool’ by the younger generation and is embarking on a number of initiatives with MTV on branded content – a first for Spain and MTV.
The Tourist Office hopes to diversify the market over the next three years, both seasonally and geographically.
Ruiz de Lera also added that greater diversification was needed with a cross selling plan to encourage tourists to experience more while in the country. “A visitor to the Costa del Sol can add on a few days in Malaga for example.”
Club La Costa World Resorts & Hotels (CLC World) has resorts on Spain’s Costa del Sol and on the Canary Island of Tenerife and with over 300 days a year of sunshine, Spain provides fabulous holidays for families and couples any time of the year.
