If you like cheese then this is one festival you will not want to miss! The Andalucian Artisan Cheese Festival (Feria del Queso Artesano de Andalucia) is an annual event held in the village of Teba.
The best artisan cheese makers from over 50 different dairies scattered throughout Andalucia converge on Teba to display their top quality handmade cheeses.
Originally taking place over the course of just one day, the Teba Cheese Festival has become so popular that the event has been extended to three days, over 15,000 people attended in 2010.
Throughout this fabulous weekend the exhibitors provide cheese lovers with the opportunity to taste their creations and purchase the products to take home.
One of the best partner’s to cheese is wine and festival-goers can also sample a selection of wines. The event organisers realise the importance of samples being available and have extended this to also include various varieties of honey and olive oils from local producers that really make this a great day out for foodies.
In addition to the tasting, lectures, demonstrations, workshops and competitions to captivate visitors, a relatively new ‘baking with cheese’ competition is also a highlight with two categories for amateur and professional entries.
This year’s festival takes place over the weekend of October 7 – 9 and entry is free of charge.
Club La Costa members and guests will find Teba a 90-minute drive inland taking in some stunning scenery along the way.
Teba is steeped in history and has strong historical connections to one of the most famous people in Scottish history – Robert the Bruce. You can read more on the history of Teba and Robert the Bruce in our feature article here.
