Nestled between modern office blocks and skyscrapers, buildings reflect the early commercial and governmental history of Orlando, covering an area of eight square blocks with structures such as the railroad depot and the courthouse along with banking and retail buildings.
Due to a series of fires in the late 1880’s which destroyed many wooden framed buildings, the city officials were prompted to pass new building standards and nearly all of the buildings still standing today are built from masonry.

The tour is split into two areas, the west loop starts in West South Street with the art deco commercial Hankins Building, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and the only remaining Folk Victorian structure left in the city, simply called the Victorian House & Cottage.
Continuing up Sparrowmore Avenue into West Church Street, highlights include Slemons Department Store, the Old Orlando Railroad Depot and the Bumby Hardware Building.
The rest of the tour is made up of the east loop and is focused around the area of North Orange Avenue and the side streets off, where the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, Angebilt Hotel and numerous commercial and banking institutions reside.
Club La Costa members and guests staying at our resort of Encantada will find downtown Orlando just a short drive away. A proper tour route is marked out by map or alternatively explorers can discover the wonders of the historic district at their leisure; the complete tour of 28 buildings is approximately 2.5 miles.
