The National Museum of Scotland will open its doors today after a £47m refit to the Victorian area of the museum.
Located in Edinburgh, the museum will now become one of the largest in the UK after the three year programme to restore the interior and convert storage space into sixteen new galleries comes to an end.
More than 8000 objects will be on display and the new galleries will take visitors on a journey through the marvels of nature, cultures of the world and science and discovery.

The venue located on Chambers Street, in the Old Town will now exhibit a total of 20000 objects across 36 galleries ranging from a life –sized skeleton cast of a Tyrannosaurus Rex to Charles Darwin collections and 3000 year old mummies.
The highlight is “Window on the World”, the UK’s largest single museum installation, a four-storey, 18 metre high display of more than 800 objects. Glass lifts will transport visitors from the entrance hall into the Grand Gallery, home of the “Window on the World”.
