Now in its 91st year, the Salzburg Festival continues to attract a multitude of visitors from over 36 different countries annually. The festival offers an unrivalled and more comprehensive artistic programme than any other from the genres of opera, concert and drama.
Club La Costa’s Alpine Centre members and guests can join the 230,000 visitors who enjoy the enchanting city that gave birth to one of the world’s most renowned composers of all time, Mozart. During the 35 days of the festival, 190 world class performances will take place across 14 different venues.
Visitors are treated to between 5 and 9 events every day and highlights of this years’ programme include the “dream team” of Riccardo Muti and Peter Stein who will present Verdi’s Macbeth. Christian Thielemann and Christopher Loy will offer what is being billed as “an opera highlight of the season” when they present Richard Strauss’ Frau ohne Schatten.
Mozart will figure heavily in the 2011 festival, the likes of which has only ever been seen before during Mozart anniversary years.
Shared by three orchestras, Le Nozzi di Figaro will be performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under the direction of young Briton Robin Ticciati. Les Musiciens du Louvre takes on Cosi fan Tutte under their founder Marc Minkowski and last but not least The Vienna Philharmonic devotes itself to Don Giovanni under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
