For an incredible “bird’s eye view” of the Costa del Sol head to Benalmadena and take the cable car to the top of Monte (Mountain) Calamorro.
From Club La Costa resorts on the Costa del Sol, Benalmadena is a 15-minute car drive – or better still take the train from Fuengirola to Arroyo de la Miel.
The main entrance is located close to the Tivoli World theme park where you can ascend Monte Calamorro to the summit 769 metres above sea level.
On the first part of the ride one will see Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Costa, two of the populated areas that make up the district of Benlamadena. As the climb continues, the landscape gradually transforms itself into a wonderful panorama of the Malaga coastline.
The ride terminates at the summit cable car station, but that is by no means the end of the journey as a variety of attractions beckon, as do those amazing bird’s eye views.
There are a number of well signposted paths that lead out to various viewing points at different heights, all offering very different views and perspectives of the coastline and surrounding mountains.
To the east lies the city of Malaga and the airport, in the distance are the commanding peaks of the Sierra Nevada, during winter and early spring most likely capped in snow. Looking to the west, in crystal clear conditions the Rock of Gibraltar and the North African coast reveal themselves in all their glory.
The Valley of Eagles provides an opportunity to see up close different species of birds of prey such as eagles, falcons, owls and vultures. Daily exhibitions, where the birds are allowed to fly freely, provide a wonderful chance to appreciate the beauty of these birds, the role they play in nature and the dangers they face with extinction.
Trekking and hiking routes are provided along easy and well signposted paths, during the walks amongst pine trees the mountain shows off an abundance of typical Mediterranean vegetation including rock rose, thyme, lilies, round-leaved mint, cantuero and marjoram.
Club La Costa members and guests will find a trip to one of the highest peaks in the surrounding area a fascinating experience and a perfect excursion for all the family.
The cable car opens at 11am and has different closing times throughout the year. In July and August the closing time is at midnight, offering tourists a stunning twilight view of the Costa del Sol.
