Jennifer Cooke's winning butterfly picture
Young Jennifer Cooke’s patience and skill paid off when she captured this lovely moment as a butterfly settled on a leaf in the grounds of Club La Costa’s Trenython Manor in Cornwall.
Her photograph has scooped her 1st prize in the junior section of the wildlife photographic competition held by the Trenython Manor resort as part of its “Totally Wild” initiative to catalogue its wildlife throughout the seasons.
The competition, open to Club La Costa members and their families, was judged by professional wildlife photographer David Chapman – who said Jennifer’s photo of the speckled wood butterfly was his overall favourite – and the Cornish Wildlife Trust.
Just a shutter click behind, and taking 1st prize in the senior section, was the charming study of one of Britain’s favourite birds, the robin, captured by Michael Jeffery, from Grays, in Essex. Jennifer won a £100 voucher to spend in Argos, and Michael’s portrait earned him a weekend break at Trenython Manor.
Trenython Manor Resort Manager Nick Waddington said: “We were delighted with all the entries. Each one captured the tranquillity and natural surroundings that are a hallmark of our resort. Thanks go to our judges and to those who took part.”
The winning photographs, plus a selection of the entries, will be exhibited in the Trenython Manor reception area, as well as on the Club La Costa website.
