Rock guitarist Brian May of Queen has dedicated a song to Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first man to fly into space 50 years ago.
Its public launch will come at the Starmus science and music festival on Tenerife in June.
He is recording the song with German electronic music group Tangerine Dream, who have another song dedicated to another cosmonaut: Alexei Leonov, the first man to carry out a space walk. Both will be based on “cosmic” sounds and other musicians are considering joining the initiative, said a festival spokesperson.
The festival takes place June 20-25 and will celebrate the Gagarin anniversary. The first female cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova, and other prominent NASA astronauts including Buzz Aldrin, who made the first manned lunar landing, are reportedly attending. Sounds out of this world!
