Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels’ 3 UK resorts – Duchally Country Estate in Scotland and Hustyns and Trenython Manor in Cornwall – are standing by to take advantage of a new UK government initiative aimed at generating 4 million additional overseas visitors over the next 4 years.
Linking VisitBritain with The Tourism Alliance – a group of 50 organisations representing every facet of the industry, including the fractional and timeshare ownership trade body: RDO UK – the joint venture has a marketing fund allocation of more than £100m.
Achieving the objective of generating 4 million more visitors, would be expected to create £2bn of extra revenue and 50,000 new jobs.
By also encouraging UK residents to take more domestic breaks and holidays, the initiative hopes to generate a further £1.3bn and an additional 26,000 jobs. From Club la Costa’s point of view, there are still many of its British members and guests who have yet to discover what a short break or a complete holiday in either Scotland or Cornwall has to offer.
Each of the Club La Costa resorts in UK is already very well placed in terms of the initiative’s key growth factors – demand, capacity and accessibility. Heritage, culture and superb landscapes in Scotland and Cornwall have proven appeal for visitors from all over the world, and the regional tourism services, including dozens of excellent attractions, usually have plenty of spare capacity, especially outside the peak holiday periods when it’s generally more comfortable to visit.
North and south of the border, road and rail transport links have steadily improved access to Club La Costa resorts in Scotland and Cornwall for both UK and foreign travellers, while in the south-west new routes have recently been added into Bristol, Exeter and Newquay airports. Cross-channel ferry links – via Plymouth and Portsmouth – also make driving to Cornwall from the continent a more attractive proposition.
Welcoming the move, a Club La Costa spokesperson said, “UK tourism needs to maximise the legacy from the Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee, not forgetting the event of 2011: the Royal Wedding, and this is a significant step forward. Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels will continue to support their local, regional and national tourist offices and, whether it’s for a short break or a complete holiday, we look forward to greeting many more new guests as a result of the campaign.”
Tourism is the UK’s sixth largest industry – generating £105bn in annual revenue and employing over 1.3m people. It also generates £20bn per annum in foreign exchange – more than North Sea oil – and contributes an estimated £24bn per annum to the Exchequer through VAT and other taxation.
