Well, if the Sunday Times says it, then it’s got to be true. Which is great news for Charlestown in Cornwall as it featured in the prestigious paper’s list of ‘The 100 Best Holidays for Summer 2011’.
With the masses alerted to what the Sunday Times describes as ‘the prettiest little nook in all Cornwall’, tourism could be in for a boost as British tourists and Club la Costa guests keep it home-grown and head to the south-west this summer.
Just 15 minutes from Trenython Manor, and an only-slightly longer journey of 30 mins from Hustyns, Charlestown would make the perfect day trip for guests at either of the Club La Costa resorts.
But it’s not just the tourists that are turning their attention towards this hitherto-hidden gem. Dr Who, his crew, and the iconic blue police box also landed in the pretty St Austell town in February this year when the eponymous time-traveller did battle with space pirates at Charlestown harbour for the latest series in his time-travelling adventures.
And should he have had any trouble with the tardis during his time in Charlestown, the doctor needn’t have worried about alternative transport…
Biding its time under a protective tarpaulin before setting sail for Ancient Greece, a replica ancient 30ft square rigger was being constructed, and kept, in Charlestown historic port. The ship was created for use in the Hollywood blockbuster, Clash of the Titans II, scenes of which were also filmed in Tenerife, in the vicinity of our Club La Costa resorts.
