It’s heating up in Tenerife, home to four Club La Costa resorts, and we’re not just talking about the weather.
It’s time to launch yourself into the Latin spirit as the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife sees the island’s capital host one of the largest and most stunning parties in the world – on a scale to rival Rio de Janerio! If you’re after an exciting escape from the gloom of Great Britain, it’s the perfect time for a Club La Costa holiday in Tenerife.
During Carnival, which takes place between 3-13 March, Santa Cruz will welcome around a million people from the world over, and sees the streets come alive with parades throughout the day and night, with thousands of people in flamboyant fancy dress, all dancing to the sounds of drums, trumpets, Caribbean rhythms and electronic music. Don’t forget your dancing shoes when you pack for your Club La Costa holiday!
Our Club La Costa resorts are a short, driving distance away and are therefore perfectly placed should you need a night off!
There’s live music, street performances, plus dazzling dance acts to entertain you. Highlights in Santa Cruz this year begin on 2 March, with the Carnival Queen Election Gala, followed by the opening street parade of spectacular floats, musicians and dancers on 4 March, the closing parade on 8 March, and then the traditional Burial of the Sardine on 9 March.
Puerto de la Cruz, a northern coastal town, also stages its own events which almost equal the size of the celebrations in the capital. The opening parade at Puerto de la Cruz will take place on 5 March, with the Burial of the Sardine also on 9 March, then the ‘High Heels Marathon’ on 11 March, before the closing parade the following day on 12 March.
Both are within easy reach (approximately one hour’s drive) of the Club La Costa resorts in Playa de las Americas.
Each year features a different theme, and has in the past showcased Space, the Circus, the Far East and Ancient Rome. The event this year will be paying tribute to Enrique Gonzalez Bethencourt, founder of one of the best-loved carnival bands on the island, and a legend of Tenerife music.
