With very little, if any, exposure to sunshine over the winter months, Britons could be putting themselves at increased danger of developing some of the more serious health conditions, say leading health groups in a recently-issued joint statement.
Bodies including the National Osteoporosis Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Cancer Research UK, have confirmed that a lack of vital vitamin D, most commonly stimulated by sunshine, could increase your chances of conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, brittle bones, and rickets in children.
They confirm that little, but frequent, exposure to the sun goes a long way to combating these conditions. And whilst it is possible to store up enough vitamin D from adequate sun exposure during the summer, this will not only risk the well-known damaging effects which are caused by over-exposure to the sun, but the groups confirm that in general, Britons are still not getting enough sun.

What little sun there is during the British winter months is not adequate to stimulate the levels of vitamin D which are necessary to maintain good health.
The recommendation is to boost your body’s vitamin D levels with some winter sun, abroad if necessary. Club La Costa destinations such as the sunshine coast itself, the Costa del Sol, or Tenerife which boasts 365 days of health-boosting sunshine every year and where the sun is simply stronger than the UK during the winter months, are the perfect destinations.
What better excuse do you need to book a body-boosting break at one of our Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels? Doctor’s orders!
